Reporter

Emily Shiroff

Emily Shiroff is a native of the greater Syracuse area, having spent her childhood in Manlius. She attended the Fayetteville-Manlius School District, graduating in 2019, one year early. Emily continued her education at Vanderbilt University, where she earned a B.A. in psychology and truly realized her passion for writing and public speaking. During her time at Vanderbilt, she got involved with various student organizations, most notably the Vanderbilt Hustler, Vanderbilt’s student-run newspaper. Emily contributed to written pieces, but she was more commonly found in the press box, covering Vanderbilt baseball games on the Vanderbilt Hustler Twitter account. She graduated from Vanderbilt in 2022, one year early yet again. The choice to come to Newhouse was an easy one for Emily, as it meant not only receiving a world-class education, but also being near her family and two beloved dogs for the next 12 months. She is currently pursuing her M.A. in broadcast & digital journalism on the sports media and communications track. Following the completion of her degree, Emily hopes to work as either a social media content creator for a college athletics program or an on-air reporter. Outside of school, Emily enjoys watching games with her dad, taking her dog, Bentley, on adventures all over upstate New York, and spending time with her friends who have remained local. She attributes her success to her parents, who always remind her that there is nothing she can’t achieve, her brother, whose near-daily requests for rides force her to take much-needed study breaks, her friends, who are always there to listen to her exhaustion-fueled rants, and all her educators and mentors through the years, who have always pushed her to be the best student and person she can be. Oh… and her dogs, who provide all the kisses and cuddles a girl could ever ask for after a long day at Newhouse.
