SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse Field Hockey’s offense went dormant Friday, falling 3-1 at home against Boston College.

The Orange registered just three shot attempts in the first 55 minutes of action before Fieve Frenken netted Syracuse’s lone goal, the first of her collegiate career.

Frenken made her first career start in place of the injured Bo Madden.

“We faced some challenges, and I’m proud of how we adjusted,” Syracuse head coach Lynn Farquhar said, said of Frenken stepping in. “We need Fieve to perform, and we’ve had teammates who’ve fought for time to do so, and now it’s her time to show up.”

Syracuse found itself down early as BC’s Laila Rosenquest shot one past Syracuse goalie Tane King just three minutes into action. The Orange did not register a shot attempt in the first period.

Following a scoreless second quarter, the Eagles doubled its lead two minutes into the second half after Klara Mueffelmann bounced the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

Boston College added its third and final goal of the game off the stick of Caroline Chisholm 30 seconds into the fourth quarter.

Tane King made her second start and fifth appearance of the year in goal for the Orange. The sophomore made three saves on six shots on goal from the Eagles.

“Tane’s a great goalkeeper,” Farquhar said. “I think she’s ready to take care of business and we need to make sure the defensive unit is ready to.”

Syracuse is going to need King to be at her best as they travel south to North Carolina for the ACC tournament.

In the single-elimination bracket, the Orange will face Louisville Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. If SU advances, the team will face the winner of top seed North Carolina and eighth-seeded Stanford.
