East Hartford, Conn. — Syracuse arrived at Pratt & Whitney Stadium with a surprise quarterback change and left with a lethal offensive blueprint.

Head coach Fran Brown made the call late Thursday night to start dual-threat quarterback Amari Odom over Steve Angeli, seeking a spark with his legs. The move paid immediate dividends: Odom orchestrated a 42-41 overtime victory against UConn, connecting with wideout Umari Hatcher for 152 yards and three touchdowns.
Syracuse built a commanding 34-14 advantage before UConn stormed back with 20 unanswered points to force overtime. Facing fourth and 17 in extra time, Odom delivered in the clutch, hitting Hatcher once more in the end zone before keeping it himself on the game-winning two-point conversion.
Odom threw for 335 yards and accounted for six touchdowns, turning broken protections into explosive plays.

“Coaches always say the best play in our playbook is the scramble drill,” Odom said. “Once [my wide receivers] see me break that pocket, them getting in my vision… so I can make a throw to them, it’s very important.”
For Hatcher, the dominant afternoon stemmed from winning battles on the perimeter against aggressive coverage.
“I just seen that it was press, and I like my speed over anybody else’s speed, I like my technique,” Hatcher said. “We just took advantage of that.”

Brown credited UConn’s playmaking down the stretch while praising his new tandem’s composure to escape East Hartford in the win column.
Syracuse has one more week away from the Dome, as the team heads to Charlottesville to battle the 3-2 Virginia Cavaliers.
