Kevin Fountain and Brian McClintock spoke to Newhouse students about a lucrative summer residency program offered by Little League International. Students of all ages from Syracuse, Penn State and Hampton Universities are welcome to apply from March 1 to March 29.
The residency program kicks off on July 21st, when selected residents will undergo training on how to select, cut and file video highlights remotely. Residents will continue to provide help with video highlights remotely until mid-August. Then, residents will travel to Williamsport to begin the in-person portion of the program.
Once in Williamsport, residents will be called upon to help wherever they are needed during the Little League World Series. However, residents are encouraged to pitch any ideas about work beyond the required minimum to their supervisors. These outside projects can include shadowing different departments, running press conferences and writing features, among many other things.
The opportunity is paid, and housing costs are covered. Additionally, transportation from any airport within a reasonable driving distance of Williamsport will be provided. Students can bring their cars or bikes, as well. However, a car is not required, and both Fountain and McClintock assured students that there would be no shortage of transportation options for students who do not bring a car or bike.
Another interesting opportunity available to interested residents is the chance to travel to Greenville, N.C. to work the Little League Softball World Series. Students selected for a virtual interview, which would take place in early April, are encouraged to express their interest in working the Little League Softball World Series.
Residents will be notified whether they have been chosen for the program in May. There are 12 spots available, meaning roughly four students from each university will be selected, according to Fountain. Students can participate in the program for academic or capstone credit if they so choose. The program qualifies for graduate students’ summer capstone requirement.
Students interested in applying for the residency program should visit LittleLeague.org/WSResidency. All that is required to apply is a resume.
