On Thursday, October 20th, Pat Pickens will come to Newhouse to speak with students about his career as a sportswriter and his upcoming book, “The Whalers: The Rise, Fall, and Enduring Mystique of New England’s (Second) Greatest NHL Franchise”. The event will take place in the Ed Levine Conference Room (room 463) at 6:00 p.m.
Pickens is a renowned sportswriter, having been published in several major outlets such as The New York Times, USA Today, Associated Press, and NHL.com. He has been covered the NHL since 2013 and has worked as a staff writer at The Game Day since 2021.
“The Whalers: The Rise, Fall, and Enduring Mystique of New England’s (Second) Greatest NHL Franchise” tells the tale of the Whalers, their notable seasons, a disaster that landed them in the NHL, and their eventual relocation to Raleigh, NC to become the Carolina Hurricanes.
The event is in collaboration with the bookstore, and copies of Pickens’ book will be available to purchase.
